About the Artist

Maryann Rachelson, artist

Maryann Rachelson grew up in the Washington DC/ Maryland area and was fortunate to study at local universities and art galleries such as the Corcoran School of Art, the Phillips Gallery, and American University. Her art studies continued at Skidmore College and at Ohio State University. Her work at the Smithsonian Institution led her into the world of the National Gallery Of Art, the Hirshhorn Museum Of Art and the Freer Gallery Of Art. She was also fortunate to be docent at the Kreeger Museum for several years. There were lots of impressionism and expressionism in those years which deeply influenced Maryann's world.  It was the time when rules were being broken, abstractionism and expressionism were beginning to overtake realism and even impressionism. Visiting local Washington, D.C. art galleries was quite an education.

Maryann has been fortunate to travel in the US and abroad and takes loads of photographs to use as inspirations for her new paintings.

The emphasis on the rhythm and flow of nature is of prime interest to Maryann.   The different blues of the waters and skies along with the wonderful rocky mountains becomes the subject most often explored.   Her primary medium is acrylics.

Maryann has been accepted in different juried art shows including those at the Atlanta Art Center, The Kudzu Art Zone, The Alpharetta Art Guild and The Johns Creek Art Center.
